“Don’t You Dare Feed That Homeless Man!”
ON A SATURDAY MORNING: Here’s a homeless man. As the LORD would have it, he was sleeping on a bench straight across the street from a coffee shop I go to sometime to meet brothers in Christ for fellowship. This man was sitting under the noses of many which is the LORD’s test. Like it or not, we are on probation. Yes we are. Those who refuse personal responsibility do not like this truth. …. This morning that coffee shop was full and I mean with barely anywhere to sit. Everyone noticed this man sleeping on the bench. I heard some mocking him. He was a bother, a nuscence (spelling?), an eyesore to them. Obviously the woman who owns that coffee shop saw the homeless man not as an opportunity to bless him but as an eyesore that was bad for her business. A cop came and had his flashing lights on and parked and was talking to the man. Obviously a local business owner, probably the owner of that coffee shop had called them. After the cop left the man lay there, dirty and hungry. I walked across the street and asked him if he were hungry and he said “yes” he was. So i told him I was going to get him something to eat and he said “Thank you.” I gave him a copy of the Gospel tract titled Diary of a Dead Man and left to go back to the coffee shop to get him something to eat. I got in line and the owner immediately and angrily came up to me and commanded me “Not to feed that man!” She made it clear that she would not sell me any food to feed him with. She drew a line in the sand with the LORD by doing this. Personally I was not offended at all, even though she did this in front of several others. I walk away and was convicted to leave, to shake off the dust as a testimony against her. I walked down the street and told a bakery about that man and they went in half to help me buy him something to eat and give him a cup of cold water. Praise God! Then, after bringing the food and water to that homeless man and telling him Jesus died for his sins and loves him, I went to a place called Angela’s (Plano, Texas). God was in this whole thing! The waitress received a full communication of the convicting, converting Law and blessed Gospel of Jesus (Psalms 19:7; Romans 5:6-8). I told her about the homeless man and she said they regularly help the homeless in that area. She was a dear lady. Then the owner, a beautiful lady (about 80 years old) came and sat down with me – right across from me. It was a very warm rapport from the onset and she said she was Italian and French. She grew up in Italy and France. She’d been through a lot in her life and the comfort of the LORD was there for her in our exchange (2 Corinthians 1:2-5). As we conversed it became evident that though she knew all about the LORD and was not against Christ, she had never been born again. I asked her if we could pray together and after praying for her as Christ’s led, I asked her if she would allow me to lead her in a prayer to the LORD. She said “Yes” and so I led her in surrendering her life to Christ, without reserve. It was tender and yet fully truthful concerning precious Angela giving her life over to the One who gave it and died to save her on that cross! I believe Miss Angela began following Jesus today! ….. Just look at how God was moving in all this. He vanquished me from one location to another because He loves Miss Angela and the others who work there! Jesus is saving sinners into His kingdom today saints! Reach out His hand in His love today and watch Jesus SAVE! Mark 16:15-20, right?
What’s interesting is that this particular coffee shop is busy from the time it opens until the time it closes. It’s full nearly all of its open hours. So, the homeless man on the bench across the street certainly isn’t hurting her business. In fact, on the morning this all occurred, there was no place to sit in that rather spacious coffee shop. Unless God otherwise directs, I will no longer go to that coffee shop.
You see, God was testing all the people who saw this poor man in his anguish and poverty. He is watch what we do and don’t do when given opportunity like this. Do you recall the once “rich man” Jesus spoke of who had a poor man named Lazarus right under his nose? That once “rich man” is now and forever and irrevocably will be in hell. He refused to lift a finger to help that poor man when he had the precious opportunity which proved he was not of God. Read Luke 16:19-31. What about the 2 religionists (Jewish priest and levite) and refused to help the ravished man in Luke 10? Where are they now? I’ll give you one guess (if they didn’t genuinely repent). Where is the Good Samaritan who came and helped that man? Hint: He’s with Lazarus in eternal glory! Read Luke 10. Here are some pictures of that precious homeless man. Please say a prayer for him.
What shall we do? Not do?
“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have DONE IT unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. … Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.” Matthew 25:40, 45
Beloved, it’s not too late for us to get real. That is, to truly turn back to the LORD, to cry out to Him, bowing low and afresh. See Hosea 14:1-2.
Oh, the people at Angela’s were of a completely different spirit. They rejoiced to help me with the food to give this man, namely a young waiter and waitress! The head cook came out to speak with me about this situation and eagerly and joyfully agreed to prepare some food for this blessed homeless man. The love and Gospel of Jesus was also spoken to that man (the cook) and he went back to get some food for the homeless man! I gave him a Diary of a Dead Man tract and asked him to read it this weekend. Then, when he brought me the food he’d prepared for the homeless man, I took it to the homeless man who gladly received it! Not everyone in this world is decidedly of a wicked disposition! Some are passing the tests God puts before them! Thank You Jesus. We know You are coming soon! “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” (Revelation 22:20) … When leaving the first coffee shop I obeyed Jesus by verbally shaking off the dust of my feet as a testimony against them. When leaving Angela’s I pronounced a blessing in Jesus name upon Miss Angela and her business. I was able to hug her and confirm that she did the right thing. The last thing I spoke to her, looking her right in the eyes, was that “Jesus says that as we do to others, we’ve done to Him.” http://safeguardyoursoul.com/why-did-jesus-say-the-rich-man-went-to-hell/
“Praise God about Angela! A true cause for rejoicing in heaven! and we all need to pray for repentance for the people scorning this man and especially the owner of the coffee shop. If Jesus himself said “whatever you do to the least of these, you do it unto me,” then she not only refused to give Jesus food, but someone couldn’t even buy the food from her to give to Jesus. I agree, dust off your feet, for she is not like minded in the least!” Lisa Seiler
“I could easily have been me or another disciple on that bench. I know well how the world treats the lowly and despised. Thank you for giving to the Lord.” Dusty Gallagher
“Amen!!!! Easier for a camel to go through an eye of needle than rich man to get in heaven. The love for money and this world is the root of evil, and what shall a man profit if gains whole world yet loses his soul? Kingdom of God reserved for the meek, down trodden, outcast and those who suffer and struggle against this world! Yet so many have not the fruits of the holy spirit and fellowship of Jesus Christ. And on the day of judgement the hypocrites, will ask why Lord? Have we not prophesied in your name?… The lord will say depart from me, I don’t not know you, ye who works iniquity! I give my last buck not ever worrying about what I give and what I receive as my heart is with those afflicted! If only we would follow the way the truth and the life all suffering would be vanquished … That say is coming! Our time is now, for the kingdom of God is at hand! God bless Todd, truly great story bringing tears to my eyes! Love in Christ Jesus brother!” Paul Perreault
